south of somewhere

Hi, our names are Sarah and Nathan Cooper. We are based in Sheffield in England, but are preparing to move to South Africa in September '06 to join a church planting team in the Western Cape. We hope that this blog will keep you up to date with our progress as we embark on this new adventure. Watch this space... www.thepeopleschurch.info

Ten weeks time

The wheels are in motion. What's been a dream for so long is swiftly becoming reality. In ten weeks time we'll be heading south for the real thing...

We will be joining ‘The People’s Church’ in Worcester, South Africa, a project launched by Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in 2005. YWAM is a global community of thousands of volunteers dedicated to developing creative and relevant responses to poverty and oppression.

Worcester is 80 miles north of Cape Town and is the capital of the Breede Valley region of the Western Cape. A fertile wine-producing area, surrounded
by mountains and bordered by the Karoo desert. It is home to almost 80,000 people, many of whom are dependent on the seasonal work of fruit picking for their survival.

In joining the People’s Church we will be working with a team of people who are committed to seeing life in it’s fullest flourish in Worcester. We will be involved in community development in its richest sense: building homes and building friendships; standing up for the rights of people who suffer obvious and persistent injustice ; feeding 500 children a week - with food, drink, love and attention; developing ‘micro-businesses’ to create employment and providing mentoring to local young people at a formative time in their lives.

Would you like to play a part in the story?...

If you'd like to support and encourage us in any way, we'd love to hear from you. Our UK address until September is 34 Burgoyne Road, Sheffield S6 3QA. The rest of our contact details are on the bookmark pictures below (just click on them to enlarge). Alternatively, leave us a comment on the blog and we'll contact you.
