south of somewhere

Hi, our names are Sarah and Nathan Cooper. We are based in Sheffield in England, but are preparing to move to South Africa in September '06 to join a church planting team in the Western Cape. We hope that this blog will keep you up to date with our progress as we embark on this new adventure. Watch this space... www.thepeopleschurch.info

The End of the Road?

Don't worry, we haven't given up! But this week we did reach the end of the road... literally! Oh Africa we love you. We'd been to the coast and were on our way back when the tarmac just stopped and mud started! It's been one of several things that has made us realise life here is quite different from the UK. The roads in general are providing us with plenty of culture shocks. Undertaking seems to be an art form, the roads are full of pick-up trucks exploding with people in the back, and at road works there's always someone whose job it is to stand a mile ahead waving a little red flag. Businesses don't seem so quick to take your money; they'll happily tell you to go down the road where it's cheaper, or say they'll call you back later (still waiting!). We've seen whales, antelope, a tortoise and a preying mantis in the bathroom (the whales, antelope and tortoise weren't in the bathroom). There's a lot to get used to!

How do the undertakers make it artistic? Do they decorate the coffins??? And why are people still getting in these pick-ups if they keep exploding like that? Sounds like carnage, the humanity. oh..i see now...

Life in the UK is pretty great, beer has been made free and we now have a three day weekend, which gives us all the more time to play with our state-issued hoverboards.

Keep up the good work, hope you're both well and that The Beast is coping well with the rough terrain. Let's Offroad!, Gripped! etc...

Come on Nath, that road you're stood on is surely like a walk in the park for the Land Rover, or The Beast as our 'witty' friend Pete has christened it.

The cockney ginge did get one thing right though, life is so good in the UK and I can't think of anywhere i'd rather be right now, honest. You know I even managed to crack a smile the other day, although maybe those pills I got off that man who walks with a limp and has a little tear tattooed on his cheek had something to do with it.

Hope you're both well, keep up the good work. Rest assured we are all keeping up to date with your news through this blog.

All the best

it certainly is strange what you see on the road, the creature in the photograph is like nothing i've seen before - pinky complexion, scrawny nobbly legs, red tufts of hair, large ears, strange eyes, the list goes on.
